iSMTA Qualifications Explained

The iSMTA works closely with Industry Qualifications (IQ) and the University of Portsmouth to ensure that learners receive the recognition they deserve when completing a course of study with the iSMTA. Working with our awarding bodies, iSMTA enables Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from basic courses to recognised qualifications and accompanying credits to assist with employment development and routes to higher levels of study. The iSMTA is an endorsed e-learning provider by the Security Institute (SyI). We acknowledge the importance of professionalism within the security sector.

At iSMTA, we offer an array of courses at different levels to suit our learners’ needs. The image below, of the Qualification Framework, highlights the differences between our qualifications from Levels 3-5.

KickStart Courses

1 to 5 Hours

These courses are a short, intensive, introduction to learning a professional topic and therefore ideal for a career transition into the business world.

These courses include an attendance certificate.

‘How To’ Courses

5 to 20 Hours

Our easy to use courses are designed for individuals and employees, particularly aimed at helping a business meet its Duty of Care.

These courses include an attendance certificate.

Level 3 Qualification Courses

50 to 80 Hours

These courses provide a comprehensive set of learning outcomes on career related topics. On successful completion a recognised Industry Qualification certificate is awarded. This is ideal for an individual to evidence career development and Continuing Professional Development.

At Level 3, learners should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the subject matter and provide examples, or apply the theory to scenarios, or working life. A good level of literacy skills will be required.

In the UK this course is the equivalent working level to that of an A/AS Level.

Level 5 Qualification Courses

110 to 150 Hours

These courses are our highest academic level and present what you need to know to be a modern professional. On successful completion, a recognised Industry Qualification certificate is awarded. This is ideal for an individual to evidence professional competence.

At Level 5, learners should be able to generate new ideas and concepts through the analysis of various topics and to formulate responses to a set of scenarios. A good level of the English language is essential and you will also be introduced to Harvard style referencing techniques.

In the UK this course is the equivalent working level to that of the Foundation Level Degree.
